Concentric Circles

Joshua Green is a psychologist practicing in NYC. He is known for taking on clients no one else wants to work with. A late night call from Lenore Lefebvre, a distressed mother, brings him into contact with the most dysfunctional family he has ever met but he accepts them as clients even when his common sense is telling him to run as far as he can get from them.

Lenore deals with secrets she cannot tell. Her ex-husband, newspaper reporter Gabe has anger he can't deal with and an on-going sexual relationship with Lenore that keeps either of them from moving on. Eighteen-year-old Jennifer, their daughter, develops a madness that can't be contained as she tried to face her inner demons. As layers of denial are stripped from this family, the darkest secrets of all hover just above them waiting to destroy them.

Joshua is juggling an almost-ex-wife, terminal loneliness and a career that is barely giving him financial support - but he is doing what he loves to do.

Into his life comes a young woman, Amy, who has deep problems of her own but sets her sights on Joshua as the new man in her life. If she can only get up the nerve to say hello, maybe something will come of it!

Circling just out of reach is a killer whose pattern seems to have no pattern and who childhood friend, Jon Kandel, police detective, is trying to solve while wrapping himself in a series of meaningless dalliances with women he meets.

Nothing is quite what it appears to be in this novel. Is the killer one of Joshua's clients? Perhaps it is Joshua himself. Perhaps the killer is not connected to his life.

The book is filled with quirky and fully developed characters who will stick in the reader's mind and be so real that when you put the book down to go to the fridge for a snack, you will want to bring something back for them, too.

Murphy

Although this is primarily a tale of crime and punishment, weird, dark, and unexpected laughs abound in this deadly serious novel. Insanity involving cats weaves a spell of symbolism in a lateral story. Can nothing stop the beast? What's it all about and who wins the mini war between cat and man? The narrator/protagonist/killer is Nicholas, the straight man of the bunch. He is preoccupied with orderliness to the point of killing; then too, he's responsible for the murders of other women. Murphy is his friend, an ex-con who is perpetually in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When a crime is committed in their own neighborhood, Murphy is the logical choice to take the rap. The novel deals with Nicholas' feelings over inadvertently getting his friend in trouble and also spells out his attempts to not only cover his own crime, but to get Murphy safely off the hook. But safety is not to be for the poor, hard-luck bastard Murphy, who's on the superhighway to death row. There is another major player in this drama, old man Nailor, a gossip who is at the top of his game and who disseminates information to deadly effect, often making the news. It's an amazing truth that a single bit of information, totally unfounded, can indeed become fact.

PittyPat Hollor

When Beth Heinze fell in love finally she blossomed into a new and startling beauty, a mature beauty; even a stranger watching her would have known she was in love. Her beau was a viscount, and reputed to be one of the richest men in England. He paid Beth's debts, and gave her a small, elegant house in the Loop Circle; she wore exquisite jewels. She came, radiant, one day to The Crow's Nest. One look at her face told Sue and Katrina her news was true. Her love ended too soon. They had already read in a local newspaper that her beau had been drowned in a river on his estate. They felt her anguish in her silence. A couple of days pass when a brief letter arrived at The Crows Nest addressed to Sue and Katrina. Katrina's attention was else where when Sue read its opening lines aloud. Sue looked at Katrina with stricken eyes as she hesitated in disbelief before going on to the next paragraph.

Watch for part two of "PittyPat Hollor" soon!
