How do I reduce the image for my profile to less than 50kb in size?
Check the Properties option on your file or use Windows Explorer or Finder to find out the current size of your image. In most programs you can choose the “Save as” option, which will allow you to quickly reduce the file size of your image. You can usually save a significant amount of space by saving the file as a JPEG (JPG). If you don’t know how to do this, you can search the help in the photo or drawing software program that your image is opened or created in.
Top ↑
What is jpg, gif or png?
This refers to the file extension that shows the format of your image e.g. jpg, gif, or png. An example of a file extension you may be familiar with is “.doc”. This is the file extension your book may have if it is stored as a Microsoft Word document.
If you have a picture stored in another file format, such as TIFF or bitmap (bmp), you can make a copy of it in JPEG format. You can do this in most drawing or photo software. When you save a copy of a picture in a different format, the original picture is not replaced.

Writers FAQs
How do I upload my book?
Uploading your book is done in four quick steps. We have tried to make uploading your book as simple as possible. There are a couple of things you will need to think through, but don’t worry, you can load the details now and update them easily later.
Step 1: Upload a cover for your book. If you have created the cover in another program and have it ready to go –great. If not, a Bookhabit cover will be created for your book with the Title and Author name showing.
Step 2: Upload the first chapter of your book.
Step 3: Upload your full book
Step 4: Enter the information that will allow people to find your book i.e. the description, keywords, category, etc.
Can I reload my book if I want to change something?
Yes. When you are logged in, click on "Upload" on the Blue Ribbon. Current uploads will be visible to click on. Once you have located your book, click on the correct icon and go through the steps to reload your book.
I started to load my book but got busy. Do I need to start over?
No. When you are logged in, click on "Upload" on the Blue Ribbon. Incomplete Uploads will be visible. Click on Incomplete Uploads and your book will be available for you to proceed to the next step.
What happens to my copyright?
Your copyright remains with you! When a Bookhabit user agrees to our terms and conditions they agree to honor your copyright. When a user purchases your book, your copyright will be embedded in that book along with a message reminding them that to respect copyright laws (no different from an ordinary book). We can’t guarantee that a user will do this, however we have faith that the readers will respect the hard work that has gone into your creation. The price of the books may also mean that the incentive to forward to many other readers is reduced. While it is easier to forward an electronic file, a book can also be passed around. If we stopped the transfer of the file to another machine, it is likely that the buyer would be unable to transfer it onto their e-reader or other device that they may want to read your book on.
You can remove your book at any time. Bookhabit will no longer display the book as available for purchase. However, records associated with the sale of your book will be maintained.
How do I update my book, description, categories, keywords, etc?
Go to My Account, click on Current Uploads and then click on the icons next to your book to update the book or the description, categories, keywords, censor level etc.

Will publishers see my work if it is on Bookhabit?
We can’t promise publishers will see your work. It is more likely that a publisher will visit a single site with lots of books rather than stumble across your own website page. (We encourage you to have your own website though!) However, you can demonstrate to a publisher the success of your sales figures on our site, and that may help to convince a publisher that there is a market for your book.

Why upload the first chapter separately? Why do I have to upload the first chapter and full book?
Readers then have the chance to read the first chapter to decide whether they want to purchase the book. As you load the first chapter, you get to determine where the break is for the end of the first chapter. For example, in a play, you might want to have a break at the end of the first scene or the first act. You get to control how much the reader sees for free.

How do I make the size of the file for my book smaller?
The smaller the file size, the quicker it will be to upload your book.
If you use Microsoft Word and have any pictures then you can choose to compress the pictures contained in the document. As all versions of Microsoft Word are slightly different, we haven’t given specific instructions on how to do this but you can find this in your Microsoft Word help. Search for “reduce file size”.

Why does the creator only get 40% of the Sales Revenue?
Approximately 20% of the cost goes towards the transaction costs. Paypal and credit card transactions have a per transaction fee and % charge on top of this for their services. As well as this, Bookhabit pays you out your revenue; there are further charges for this payment. The remaining 40% goes to Bookhabit. This money goes towards administration, marketing and the costs of running the website.
Top ↑
Can I add a category?
No, but if you feel something is missing, please email us. Searching by keywords will also be useful. Bookhabit users will search by keywords so choose the category (or categories) that matches your book most closely and then add the keywords that narrow down the subject or themes of your book.

Why aren't the books free?
A lot of eBooks are now offered for free over the internet, so why doesn’t Bookhabit provide ebooks for free? Firstly, we believe in the hard work that goes into the writing of books on Bookhabit and the value contained within each book. We believe people will pay for that value and support the writers on the site. (See our pricinginformation.)
Secondly, the reason the majority of free eBooks books are free is because they are being used as marketing tools to sell other products or services, or to establish the writer as an expert. Bookhabit is focused on the readers and writers and the creation process – we are not trying to sell anything else!
Thirdly, the site is not free to run and we don’t clutter the site with advertising in order to pay for the services provided. It costs money to run and administer the site, as well as to market to attract readers and writers to the site. We believe in offering value and entertainment, and it is all for less than the price of a cappuccino!

Which country is Bookhabit based in?

How do I create a cover for my book?
If you don’t already have a cover for your book you can create one using graphics or photo software. If you don’t want a cover, that is fine too – we will provide a default Bookhabit cover that will have your title and author name on it. When you complete Step 1 of the upload process, simply leave the Cover image field blank and click on Next.
To create a cover you need to choose an image. You can add a title, the author, or any other words you like on the cover. Save the new image and upload in Step 1 – Upload Cover. You will need to do this using graphics or photo software.
The cover image is a factor that may influence people to choose your book to read. You can spend a long time thinking about and tracking down images and designing the perfect cover for your book, or use an old photograph. When designing your cover or choosing an image you need to make sure you have it in one of the following formats so it can be uploaded: jpg, gif, png. Remember you need to ensure you have permission to use any of the images on the cover or in your book.
Please refer to the Bookhabit Terms and Conditions if you are uncertain of your responsibilities.
How do I reduce the image for my cover to less than 1Mb in size?
Check the properties of your document or your Windows Explorer or Finder to find out the current size of your image. In most programs you can choose the “Save as” option and this will allow you to quickly reduce the file size of your image. If the picture is not already a JPEG, you can usually save a significant amount of space by saving the file as a JPEG (JPG). If you do not know how to do this, you can search the help in the photo or drawing software program that your image is opened or created in.
